The Matildas Alumni Association grew from the Matildas Alumni Advocacy Group (MAAG), established to bring former Australian international women's footballers together and advocate on matters affecting their recognition and legacy.

Following growing support from Alumni across generations, the Association was formally incorporated on 12 May 2025. It provides an independent, Alumni-led organisation dedicated to strengthening connections, recognising contributions and representing the interests of former Matildas.
